Route 29 bypass: Thomas Jefferson points to "right thing" to do

See Lynchburg News & Advance article of Sept 24 titled "Officials stress bypass's effects"
With the completion of the new Route 29 Bypass, here is a solution that would perhaps be to simple to put in place:

First, leave 5th Street, Memorial Ave, et al designated as Route 29 business. After all it is a true business corridor with businesses adjacent to the streets.

Second, Leave the Lynchburg Expressway name in place and call it Route 29 Alternate.

Third, name the new Route 29 Bypass the MONACAN BYPASS - this is what each and every concerned private citizen in the past 3 years who has spoken out publicly about this matter has suggested. After all the Route 29 Bypass roadway runs through the heart of land that was native to the Monacan tribe. The bridge over the James River on the Route 29 Bypass was named the Monacan Bridge so naming the entire bypass the same name is the final "right thing" to do. Of course the bypass could be named after a single person but it would be better named after a group of people.

Thomas Jefferson based on his commitment to justice, honor and American character would undoubtedly support honoring native people by the naming of the Monacan Bypass on Route 29. Relevant quotes follow:

"The want of attention to the rights of Indians is a principal source of dishonor to the American character. ... justice is what we should never lose sight of, and in time it may recover their esteem." --Thomas Jefferson to Benjamin Hawkins, 1786

"Our system is to live in perpetual peace with the Indians, to cultivate an affectionate attachment from them by everything just and liberal which we can do for them within the bounds of reason, and by giving them effectual protection against wrongs from our own people." --Thomas Jefferson to William H. Harrison, 1803
